Jessica's Latest!

Jessica Woods-Robinson brought her latest creations in on Thursday to show us! This one is called "Croning". She did a "Moon Series" of wallhangings.
This photo is darker than the real life version. I love the trees in these wallhangings, they're very delicate. There is a little owl she painted in the tree, click the picture to make it larger to see it better.
Here's the third one! Notice above the wallhangings the branch. It's a crooked branch from her Walking Stick Tree. She has a branch perfect for hanging the wallhangings on!
This one has a Koi theme, and there will probably be a couple of Koi ones coming!
Stay tuned!

Fat Tuesday!

Happy Mardi Gras! I have something different today in honor of it being Fat Tuesday! My sister Kathy in Houston sent me these pictures from a Mardi Gras Gala she attended a couple of weeks ago.
For the last 56 years the O'Connell High School in Galveston has had a Mardi Gras benefit. Apparently each student does his or her own fundraising and whoever raises the most gets to be the Queen and King. The other participating high school students are Dukes and Duchesses. Even though it's a High School fundraiser the elementary and middle school also join in the fun. Each high school couple have 2 elementary school pages and 2 middle school kids that I don't know what they are called.
The organizing committee picks a theme for the event. This year was books. So the Moms of the students are given a pattern to make the trains for their children. They are very "quilt like" and intricate! This one below is a Great Gatsby one. A Mom sewed a lot of sequins and little mirrors!
This green one is a Jungle Book train. In the corner you can see a part of an Alice in Wonderland train with a clock on it.
Here's a better picture. See how long these things are! The orange one on the left is a Don Quixote train.
This last one is a detail shot of something. Kathy couldn't remember what. So, there was a pageant parade into the room, dinner, and dancing. The trains were hung on the stage for everyone to see.
And a good time was had by all!! Happy Fat Tuesday!

Hearts and Fabric!

Our "Heart Lady" Helene came again this year and added some hearts to our collection that she has made over the years!! We look forward to putting out our hearts every February! For those of you who don't know, Helene makes hearts and then on February 1 she surprises people she knows with a display of hearts outside their home or building. One of the hearts has the year embroidered on it. Every year after that it is up to them to put them out on February 1 and take them in on the last day of February until next year. She comes each year and adds a few more, one with the year embroidered on it.
Helene is pictured here with her daughter, Lulu. These are the hearts she added this year! Thank you Helene, we love out hearts!!!
We have received a lot of fabric lately!! Here is some Parson Grey by David Butler.
