Hope For UFO's Everywhere!

Do you ever think about all your UFO's and think they will never, ever be finished? I do. I do have a lot of UFO's to do. Well, today I got a little bit of hope. Bessie came in to the store today needing some advice on finishing her quilt top. She used our tables and layered and tied it.

It's a wonderful quilt! Click the picture. It has strips of everything and anything, all about a half inch wide. Well, it turns out that she lived in Arizona in the FORTIES and her neighbor was a quilter and she bought the top from her. She has had it all this time and never finished it!

That's sixty years!! I think she wins! I've seen old quilt tops that people are finishing that they bought at yard sales or somewhere, but not the same person holding on to it for that long and

getting it done.
It made me think about my UFO's. I think this one is my oldest. I was making this quilt for my daughter Keri for when she was graduating from a crib to a big girl bed. She is now 29.
I have all that sewn together already, and all the pieces cut out and pinned to paper for all the remaining blocks I need to complete it. I have no idea why I lost interest.
Maybe it'll be done in time for Keri to have a daughter that's graduating to a big girl's bed.

There's still hope for this UFO!

Janice McGrath made this elephant wallhanging for her niece. I had to hold off posting this picture in case her niece saw it and spoiled the surprise before Janice gave it to her. I wrote myself a note that said, "No elephants until after Tuesday. Janice." Luckily I figured it out. I write myself cryptic notes and put them in my pocket and sometimes they are a complete mystery.
These placemats were made by Jeannine in Debbie's class. The tea cups are machine embroidered.

Star Light, Star Bright, by Rose Wroe. She hand pieced, appliqued and quilted this quilt.
Circles and Stars, by Marylou MacFadyen. Inspired by a design made by Judy Holley of Baton Rouge, La., which appeared in a 2002 issue of Quilters Newsletter magazine. Holley was inspired by a quilt from a Jean Wells book. This quilt won a First Place Blue Ribbon in it's category at the show!! Congratulations Marylou!!
Vi Olsen made this quilt, called Nantucket Sailing, from Sue Campbell's original pattern, Nantucket Sleigh Ride. It is hand pieced, appliqued, and embroidered, with hand and machine quilting. This quilt won a First Place Blue Ribbon in it's category!! Congratulations Vi!!

Random

Here's the tablerunner for the September Tablerunner class. Or for whenever you want to make it. It works great with border or striped fabrics.

This is Kate's first quilt. Of course her daughters Maeve and Effie helped.
Okay, I had to take a picture of this. A five year old boy, Evan, was in the store today and was going through the pool and picked out these fabrics for his mother to buy for him. He picked fabrics with footballs, hula girls, camouflage, and dots.
Is that a typical male, or what?

Mermaids

We had mermaids at the store yesterday! They made new tails! Pictured are Abby (who's tail still fit her so she made a tail for her doll, Julie), Grace, Riley, and Anna.

Later in the day, Abby and her Mom, Marianne, came over to my house to sew. Abby had her sewing basket with everything she needed.
She even had steam a seam, which it turned out she needed.
When her Mom told her she liked her color combination, Abby said it had the "warm cookie feeling".
What could be better?

Ruth's Quilts

The Bayberry Quilt Show is over until next year! I hope you were able to go see it. Ruth Wilcox, along with Diane Craft, were featured in a Special Exhibit. Today I'll show you some of Ruth's quilts.

These quilts I choose today feature some of her quilts I'll call quilts with critters of some sort that aren't fish. (Fish ones can be a whole other group.)
This one is more of a stuffed dimensional one as opposed to a quilt.
I love this frog one. The background rocks!!
