Sewing with Adele!

 Carolyn DeBrusk spent the day in the classroom with Adele and almost finished up her tablerunner!

Betty Jo showed us her pinwheel quilt, machine quilted by Micki Heath!

Debbie Cole has her top all finished!

Robin MaGuire stopped by to show us her batik jacket she made in a class with Adele!

Storm Sewing

I saw this Scrappy Trips Around the World quilt a lot online and decided to make one of my own.  The pattern I followed is here and is from Bonnie Hunter.  Great instructions and easy to follow!  I actually started it right before the first snow storm a few weeks ago.  I sewed a few blocks, and then sewed strips for more blocks so I could cut them after the electricity went out.  That's what I prepare before a storm, hand sewing and fabric for cutting, and of course a bathtub full of water because we lose water when we lose electricity.  

 I had some strips cut and sewn and ready to be cut into strips of squares during the daylight hours.

I also cut more strips and put them in piles for more blocks.

 So after all our weekend storms the quilt was this big.  I wanted to make it two rows bigger on length and width so it will measure 96 by 96.  I have just about all the blocks made and have to sew them together.  Soon.

I limited the colors to red, orange, yellow, lime green, blue, and gray.  You can click here to see over a thousand pictures of Scrappy Trips Quilts!

I also cut fabric for blocks for this other quilt I am working on in black and gray fabrics. You can see little piles of cut fabric held together with a pin to keep each block's fabric together.

The pattern is called Spin Cycle and it is from Cluck Cluck Sew.  We carry the pattern at Tumbleweed.

Quilts by Kim Greenfeld

On display this month we have quilts made by Kim Greenfeld!  She loves fabrics made by Kaffe Fassett and makes a lot of quilts using those fabrics.  A lot of people come into the shop and comment on the bright Kaffe fabrics and say they want to use them but they don't know what to make with them, especially the large florals.  Kim shows that they can be used very effectively with patterns that most people are familiar with and are comfortable making.

I love the trees that are quilted next to the houses!

 

Kim made these two quilts using the "Yellow Brick Road" pattern and you can see it made in two different colorways.

This simple appliqué quilt looks great!  Look at the large floral fabric she used for the background!

Here she made a traditional "Trip Around the World" quilt using Eleanor Burn's pattern!  It's beautiful!

Kim didn't follow a pattern for this one,  she cut rectangles and made her own arrangement using Kaffe's shot cottons and woven stripes!

Misc.

Kristin Sullivan has made her first quilt!  It came out great!  

Kristin's son, Ryan, decided to make a quilt, too!  He made this one for his cat!  Lucky cat!

June Auger finished a fierce dragon quilt while sewing with Willie in a class!

"Blue Variety" by Jo Morton has arrived!

Kathleen Bressett needed a fabric to back this "Dresden Plate" quilt top!  She is finishing up old projects!

Some Kanvas fabric called "Cabana" has arrived!

Quilts

Sharon Cumiskey was on the Cape attending a quilt retreat weekend with the "Awesome Crafters".  She stopped at Tumbleweed on her way to the hotel and bought a jelly roll, made this quilt during her stay, and stopped and showed us the result on her way home!  

This quilt of Sharon's, called "A Pint of Patchwork" is a souvenir of a trip to an Irish Quilt Festival!This is made from one of 50 kits sold at last year's festival with fabric made just for the Festival in colors of Guinness Ale.

 Sharon made this wallhanging for a Van Gogh Starry Nite Challenge!

Karen Kuligowski was also attending the retreat and showed us her "Irish Quilt"!

She calls it "Place of Peace" and it does look very peaceful!  

We do enjoy seeing what everyone is making!  

At The Shop

We had to make room for all the solids we had and the ones arriving any minute and added another unit to hold them!  They look so nice!

Our "Little Bits" swimming pool is now on a pedestal table !

Doesn't it look like a giant bird bath? Don't forget, we are currently giving you one bit for free if you bring your own bag or don't need one!

If you can't think or a specific use for them right now, they look great in a jar in your sewing room!  You can keep adding and soon you will have enough to make a scrap quilt!  

The classroom was busy this week, as usual!  Beverly Peninger worked on a Trip Around the World and finished it up!

Marilyn made the entire baby quilt while she was here!

Sharri made a tablerunner with scraps from another project!

Marlene was making a bag!

Betty Arthur showed us her completed Seascapes top!

Sharri made this box in a class with Willie and turned it into a "Red Hatter's Survival Kit" with lots of fun things inside!
